PROF. RAJESH THAKKER OBE, MD, ScD, FRCP, FRCPath, FMedSci, FRS

Rajesh Thakker was May Professor of Medicine (1999-2023) at the University of Oxford, and is currently Professor of Medicine at the William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI), Queen Mary University London (QMUL). His main research interests include the molecular basis of disorders of calcium homeostasis and he has authored over 500 publications, which have included peer-reviewed papers in the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Nature Genetics, Journal of Clinical Investigation and Lancet Journals. He has been the recipient of many prizes which include: the Louis V Avioli Founder’s Award from the ASBMR (USA) (2009); the Dale Medal from the Society for Endocrinology (UK) (2015); the Phillippe Bordier Award from the European Calcified Tissue Society (ECTS) (2020); and the Louis V Avioli Memorial Lecture from the ASBMR (USA) (2021). Professor Thakker was elected as Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 2014, and appointed as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours list (2024).
